We need a goal-den touch says Candlish

NEIL Candlish has warned his Chimney Corner players they will have to be more ruthless in front of goal if they are to achieve their target of moving away from the foot of the Interim League table.
Candlish was impressed by his side’s performance on Saturday but once again, the outcome went against Corner as they lost 2-0 at Moyola Park.
“Richard Reid and Gary Brown up front tortured Moyola’s defence and we had four or five great chances but we need to be putting them away.
“At the other end, we conceded a goal when the bounce of the ball beat our full-back and the guy spun off his to score and the other goal was like Geovanni’s for Hull against Arsenal – you just don’t save those.
“For the two supposedly worst teams in the division, it was a great game and we had three cleared off the line.
“Young players who came in like Simon Gibson in the centre of defence can be proud of their performances. He remarked upon the pace of the game being faster than anything he has experienced it but with four or five games under his belt, that won’t be an issue.
“The best way for those young players to gain experience is by playing week in, week out. I’m prepared to do that and I’ve been heartened by the support I’ve received from the chairman and committee for what I’m trying to do.”
Those youngsters are likely to become increasingly important figures as Candlish’s squad begins to look slightly threadbare.
Skipper John Banks and on-loan defender Stevie King are both sidelined by injury, while Candlish has had to wield the axe on several players who he believed weren’t pulling their weight.
“It’s a difficult thing to do to get rid of good players but what message does it send out when those players aren’t putting in the same effort as ones who are busting a gut every night in training?
“I would rather work with the ones who show commitment and never miss training and try to improve them.
“Their attitude is already good, which is a good starting point, and that has been reflected in their improvement as players – what they need now is a bit more experience to help improve results,” added Candlish, whose side travels to Annagh United this Saturday.
