ANTRIM council is making sure that everyone is made to feel welcome when they move to the borough by launching a Welcome Pack, in conjunction with its first-ever Good Relations Strategy this Friday, September 26.
The launch of the Welcome Pack coincides with the European Day of Languages and Antrim Borough Council would like to extend an invitation to anyone interested in learning some basic Polish words to come along to Antrim Civic Centre on September 26.
Two basic Polish courses are being held and these are free of charge and open to anyone interested in learning simple words and phrases useful in everyday conversation with Polish neighbours or work colleagues. The courses will start at 3.30pm and 4.15pm and will last approximately 30 minutes. Both courses will be held in the Civic Centre.
“The Welcome Pack is designed to help newcomers quickly settle into the Borough by providing a range of simple and useful information about Council and non-Council services. It gives lots of information on what to do, what to see and where to go, but also examines the more serious side of the legal requirements for living in the Borough such as TV licensing and driving,” said Ian Wallace, Good Relations Manager with the council.
He added: "The pack is available in English, Polish, Slovakian and Lithuanian and is available on CD ROM. This valuable resource will benefit not only newcomers to the area but also organisations that are regularly approached for information such as libraries, health centres, schools and businesses.”
