DUP Councillor and Chairperson of Antrim DPP Pam Lewis has commented on the number of arrests and incidents recorded by the PSNI following this years Planet Love event in Antrim.
Cllr Lewis said: "The figures released by the PSNI following Planet Love clearly indicate that this event is a magnet for drug abuse and dealers.

"With 26 drugs related offences and the recovery of speed, cannabis and cocaine, it is clear that steps must be taken to remove the danger from such an event.

"I welcome the robust and proactive action taken by the police to deal with all the serious issues that arise from the event.
"The figures do raise concern at the use and supply of drugs at Planet Love and while there were no incidents recorded in relation to alcohol, undoubtedly it remains a factor that this deadly cocktail of drugs is readily available over this particular weekend.

"Serious questions must now be asked of the organisers in the light of these figures. It is just not acceptable to have an event, which leads to such behaviour.
"While I would accept that those arrested are a small percentage of the many who attend Planet Love, nevertheless it is exposing many young people to the greatest scourge in our society and unfortunately there are those who will use this or any other event to poison our young people, while pocketing the money for their own profit."

She added: "The PSNI are to be commended for the hard work and resources put into policing the event which ensured that the weekend was managed with as little disruption to the Antrim Borough as possible."
