ANTRIM council's dog wardens are now able to microchip residents' dogs and are hosting a number of local events to mark the start of the serivce.
The borough wardens' roadshow will be visiting the following venues - Stiles Community Centre, September 30, from 10.30am to 11.30am; Ballycraigy Community Centre, October 2, from 10.30am to 11.30am; Parkhall Community Centre, October 7, from 10.30am
to 11.30am; Rathenraw Community Centre, October 9, from 10.30am to 11.30am. Should the events prove popular, it is hoped that there will be more in the future.

Paul Chapman, Borough Warden, said: "The aim of the road show is to provide a locally based micro-chipping service for dogs. The cost to have your dog micro-chipped will be £10 and all we do is implant a small chip in the lower neck of the dog which includes details of his owner and address. This is definitely a small price to pay for knowing that, should your dog get lost, a local vet or dog warden can scan the dog, retrieve the chip number and reunite him with his owners.

We will also be on hand to provide information on other matters regarding responsible dog ownership with respect to relevant legislation. This will include stray dogs, unwanted dogs, welfare, fouling, barking dogs and neutering. Should you need to apply for new dog licence or want to renew an old one you can do that on the day too."

The cost is £5 for a standard licence, £2.50 for an owner over the age of 65 if they live alone and £12.50 for a block license (three Kennel Club registered dogs or three un-sterilised bitches used for breeding).

You must have your dog licensed, even if it is micro-chipped.

For further information on the microchipping service, please contact the Borough Wardens, on 9446 3113.
