SIR - After reading recent articles about local traders campaigning against Tesco coming to Crumlin, I thought it was about time a local resident was given the chance to have their say.
Like many other local people I know, I completely support Tesco coming to the village and this is for a number of reasons.
As a single mum my spare time is limited as it is, but like the majority of people who live in Crumlin, I have to travel to
supermarkets outside of the village to do my weekly grocery shopping.
This is because currently there is by no way enough variety of groceries in the local shops and although they report they are competitive, I certainly couldn’t afford to buy all my shopping there.
Having a Tesco in Crumlin would therefore save me and many other people the time and effort of having to travel elsewhere to buy their weekly groceries and means I am more likely to stay in Crumlin to finish the rest of my shopping.
Another reason is that Tesco would also provide the area with a wide variety of new jobs with flexible working hours.
This would be ideal for me and others such as students who will have the chance to work jobs around other commitments.
Currently there is no where within walking distance which provides me with this opportunity.
Therefore, I can see many benefits of Tesco opening in Crumlin and with such a growing rate of population there is definitely a need for the supermarket to open to bring the village more up to date.
I know many local residents look forward to having the extra choice and variety of goods in the village and more competition can only be a good thing for the local shoppers!
Yours, S Harper,
Crumlin
