Lady President's Day at Massereene Golf Club
Published Date:
02 September 2008
THE day started early for the Lady President, Mrs Edith McGaffin, as she saw her first competitors off the tee at 9am.
Only one word suitably describes the August weather - rain.
However, on Lady President's Day the golfers had a dry day with sunshine.
Sammy Hall and his green staff had the course in great condition so the lady golfers had no excuse and competition for the Lady President's prizes was intense with some excellent scores recorded.
The ladies and guests gathered in the club house for dinner in the evening after which the Lady President, Mrs. Edith McGaffin, spoke of her enjoyment of the day. Edith went on to thank family and friends for their support also the many well wishers for their cards and gifts.
Edith finished her speech by announcing that £420 to date had been raised for her chosen charity 'N.I. Kidney Research'.
The climax of the day then followed with the announcement of the winners and presentation of prizes. The competition was very close with only two points separating the two best scores. The winner of the Lady President's Prize, with 43 points was Heather Myles. Heather plays off 11 so on the day she played to a handicap of 4, an exceptional round of golf. Congratulations also go to Helen Cummings who scored 41 points.
